Some of our recent projects

Working with artists and directors allows La Chunky to stretch their creativity. Often the work we produce in this area is quite abstract with a strong soundtrack element which is reflected in the greater use of sound effects and strange instrumentation. Core member Ronan Breslin has a long history of work in this area with well-respected work for Glasgow's Arches Theatre and Tron Theatre.

Montague Place, Promenade Theatre and Dance Production, Mischief La Bas, 2006.

Unique and critically acclaimed production premiered at Big in Falkirk and toured UK-wide. La Chunky composed the entire 45-minute music soundtrack for this production.

Heavier Than Air, Touring Exhibition 2003. download audio clip

Acclaimed artist Tom McKendrick's work reflects his twin obsessions - heavy industry and the Clydebank Blitz. For his most recent exhibition. Heavier Than Air he created abstract sculptures and paintings of wartime aircraft in an attempt to convey the beauty and menace of these destructive machines. Collaborating closely with the artist, La Chunky realised a 45-minute soundtrack of music, abstract sound and distant voices from WW2 recordings which plays throughout the exhibition.

Painful Creatures. Large-scale performance piece touring Britain and Europe throughout 2004. download audio clip

La Chunky were commissioned to produce 10 pieces of music and soundscapes for this truly massive undertaking. The complete lack of dialogue means that the soundtrack has a crucial role in bringing this production to life. This summer Painful Creatures will play to thousands of people throughout Britain and Europe. Link to www.painfulcreatures.com

Good Grief. National Review of Live Art, Arches Theatre, Glasgow, 2003. download audio clip

This moving reflection on the nature of death and grief was comprised of abstract images, mysterious lampposts and an evocative soundtrack by La Chunky. The music, reminiscent of French group Air at their most gloomy, was a combination of restrained Rhodes piano and fragments of distant sound - a genuinely emotional experience for audience and participants alike.

La Chunky also contributed the soundtrack and sound FX to the associated Good Grief arcade game please don't ask!!

Project X Millenium 2000. UZ Productions / Mischief Le Bas.

On December 31, 1999, Glaswegians awoke to find a mysterious spaceship crash-landed in their midst. Throughout the day strange noises and music emanated from the craft attracting a motley crew of cult worshippers, spiv salesmen and media tarts. Eventually, amid a cacophony of sound effects and creepy music four aliens emerged ready for some pop action. Who did the music?

Bull Ballet - Touring 1998/1999/2000.

This madcap dance/theatre piece needed a suitably unhinged soundtrack. La Chunky obliged.
